Education experience, reimagined for home.

Home Ed by Design brings together my experience in Australian education, curriculum and program design with my perspective as a parent navigating home education. I created it to help families build a clear, purposeful learning framework that still leaves room for real life.

Why Home Ed by Design?

For much of my professional life, I have worked in education, thinking about how learning is planned, how programs fit together and how schools create the structures that support students to progress.

When my own family began exploring home education, I started looking at those same questions from a very different perspective. I did not want to recreate a conventional school day, but I also wanted confidence that the learning had a clear direction.

That balance between structure and flexibility became the starting point for Home Ed by Design.

Structure and flexibility do not have to be opposites.

Home Ed by Design has been shaped by both sides of my experience.

As an educator

I bring experience in curriculum and educational planning, program design, assessment, understanding learning progression, educational leadership, creating coherent systems and considering the needs of different learners.

As a home educating parent

I also understand the questions that feel very different when the child you are planning for is your own: Are we doing enough? What should we focus on? How much structure do we need? How can learning progress while still working for our actual family?

What I believe good home education planning should do.

Understand the child first. Planning should begin with the learner, including where they are now, what interests them, what they find challenging and what helps them engage.

Provide direction without rigidity. Parents should be able to understand what their child is working towards without needing to become curriculum experts themselves.

Leave room for life. A program should make space for curiosity, family routines, travel, local experiences and unexpected learning opportunities.

Connect the pieces. Curriculum, activities, assessment and evidence should support the same learning direction rather than exist as separate pieces of paperwork.

Good planning should create confidence, not complexity.

A note from me

I know that choosing to home educate can come with both excitement and a lot of questions. My aim with Home Ed by Design is not to tell families exactly how home education should look. It is to take some of the planning weight off your shoulders and give you a clear framework from which you can create the kind of learning experience you want for your child.

You know your child and your family. My role is to bring the educational planning expertise that helps turn that knowledge into a purposeful program.
